Remain in the Vine

As I stole a moment that I didn't have and stared at the beautiful bouquet of flowers my husband had delivered to my work this week, I narrowed my focus to one perfect, pink rose. I was experiencing one of those, "Be still and know that I am God," moments. His creation is so amazing! The color in this gorgeous rose was so rich and vibrant and its fragrance was so pleasing that I kept coming back for more sensual fulfillment. As satisfying as it was, however, I knew that it wouldn't last. It was disconnected from the vine and would soon begin to die. The firm beautiful petals would separate, become brittle, finally fall from the stem and wither away. The Lord reminded me of the scripture in John 15, where He says for us to remain in Him and He will remain in us. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. He goes on to say that if anyone does not remain in Him he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. We are just like that rose. God created us to bear good fruit, pleasing to others. When we allow stress, agendas, or just plain busyness to distance us from God and separate us from the vine, our aroma is not very pleasant. Time in the word and prayer keep us connected, not being a good person and going to church. God wants our priority to be Him, which is why the enemy fills our days with so many distractions. Satan studies our lives and knows that we can be conquered more easily if we are isolated from God. More...
