Reason to Pray in the Spirit #5 - Richard Carender

When we pray in the spirit God reminds us that He has filled us with a power that is beyond our

comprehension.  The same power that brooded over Creation is the same power that raised Christ

from the dead.  It (He) is the same power that quickens (energizes) you—makes you alive!  It is

unlimited, immeasurable and surpasses greatness and It (He) is in you and for you!  When you

begin to realize the truth of it (Him) you will begin to say with confidence, “I can do all things

through Christ who strengthens me!”  (Phil 4:13)

The power of God IN US is the greatest mystery in the history of man.We talk about the power of God often.  We sing about it.  We testify of the power…but still, people all around us are not moved because, by and large they see no evidence of it.  Paul wrote, “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power.” (1 Cor. 2:4-5.)

If we are to win our world for Christ, if our testimony is to bring glory and honor to the Lord, we must use every tool, every weapon, every strategy at our disposal.  None of those is effective without the power of God energizing our efforts.

We do not have the capacity to fully grasp the reality of God’s power IN US.  C. H. Spurgeon wrote, “God’s power is like Himself, self-existent, self-sustained. The mightiest of men cannot add so much as a shadow of increased power to the Omnipotent One. He sits on no buttressed throne and leans on no assisting arm. His court is not maintained by His courtiers, nor does it borrow its splendor from His creatures. He is Himself the great central source and Originator of all power.”

The only power the enemy has over you is the power YOU give him.  He is the “god” of this world, the “prince of the power of the air,” the “ruler of darkness.”  Understand that those terms are just descriptive of a being that was stripped of any real power when he decided to rebel against God.  He has no power outside “the kingdoms of this world.”  Real power dwells in you!

James tells us to submit ourselves to God.  Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  (James 4:7)  When the devil starts bothering you, you must be able to discern what is happening or you will fight to exhaustion rather than simply ignoring him.  Only when we begin to grasp the reality of God’s power infused into us by the Holy Ghost will we begin to understand how truly powerless satan is to fight against it.  As long as Christ delays His coming the enemy will mount battle after battle against you but don’t be discouraged.  He has already lost the war!

Be aware of this; the incredible power God has placed at our disposal is well within our ability to

control.  Just as a damn holds back the energy of a rushing river until an engineer opens the

floodgates allowing water to flow through it in order to create enormous power, our free-will

holds back the energy stored up within us until, by faith, we begin to open the spiritual

floodgates allowing God’s energy to flow through us resulting in manifestations of great power.

The Holy Ghost is the head engineer.  Stay in contact with the “higher-ups” through Him and He

will let you know just when and how much and for how long to let the river flow!

"I want to help you decide that, by the power of God, you will not be ordinary."
